Southwest functional medicine uses a unique blend of functional medicine*, nutritional wellness, and diagnostic testing to provide a personalized plan designed to relieve patients of adrenal fatigue symptoms and disorders to improve their overall quality of life.

How Stress Impacts the Adrenal Glands

The body handles stress by releasing a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol is released by the adrenal glands that sit on top of the kidneys. Cortisol is responsible for handling times of stress in the body as well as some sex hormones.

When constant stress is prevalent in your life, the adrenal glands become overworked. This leads to the adrenal glands becoming fatigued, resulting in lack of cortisol production and stress taking over the body.  Many individuals who suffer from some degree of adrenal fatigue experience:

  • Brain fog
  • Headaches
  • Anxiety
  • Fatigue

Although stress is the main factor in adrenal fatigue, other factors impact the adrenal glands as well. Adrenal fatigue can also be caused by lack of sleep due to a disruption in the body’s cortisol pattern, diet, and exposure to chemicals.
