El Paso HS sports, young athletes long to be just like the sports stars on television. El Paso, TX. Chiropractor Dr. Alex Jimenez presents local high school sports stories that will inspire and educate others, as well as, young aspiring players. What child doesn’t dream to dunk or make the winning kick, goal, touchdown etc… Recently children and adolescents have begun to train like the pros. This presents a problem, as children participating in various sports are developing injuries at a much higher rate than before. Most of these injuries come from repetition and overuse called Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI). What is happening is these kids are playing the same sport all year round. Before it a child would play one sport in summer, and a different one in the winter. Today children are specializing in one sport in the hopes of getting a competitive edge. A sports chiropractor is trained to treat RSI’s in all age groups and can provide education on proper form, training, nutrition and rest/recovery in order to achieve a balanced lifestyle. In addition to a sports chiropractor, a health coach can be a necessity to young athletes. Not only does a health coach work along chiropractors in order for a patient to have an optimal recovery, but they develop and work with the child on balance. Balance of diets, protein consumption, working through the mental aspects of an injury and adequate rest days. Depending on the injury a chiropractor may request ultrasound, x-rays, electric stimulation. A chiropractor can help improve performance on and off the field by helping their bodies to function at an optimum level.
